A Brief History
 
The Society was organized in October,1972 by a group of local men and women who were interested in studying and collecting old coins, paper money, tokens and other numismatic items. The organizational meeting was held at the Willimantic Motor Inn on Rt. 195 in Mansfield Center on September 25th, 1972. One month later the first regular meeting was held. In January of 1993 the meeting place was changed to the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Mansfield and again on November 23rd, 1981 was moved to the Mansfield Public Library where it continues to meet seven times a year on the 4th Mondays of September through April, except in December.
 
Within a year the Society held its first coin show at the Ukrainian Club in Willimantic on January 21st, 1974 and continued with it there on an annual basis for about 8 years. It then moved to larger quarters at the Willimantic Elks Lodge and became established as a springtime show during the months of March or April. From that venue it moved again in March of 2001 to the Kramer School gymnasium at the corner of High and Prospect streets where it is still held on a yearly basis. The Annual Show is the largest one day club sponsored show in all of the New England States. And the show is the club’s main fund raising event of the year.
 

The club logo or emblem was designed and drawn by local artist and club member Jim Cayer. The three devises incorporated into the logo are reresentative of devises seen on Connecticut Coins, Paper Money and Official Documents. They are; the Charter Oak, a sundial and three hammers with crowns.

The membership is mostly from eastern Connecticut but some come to meetings from as far as Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Society membership has remained at about 100 individuals.

Meeting was called to order by John Ferreri and acknowledgements were made to Alan Langley and Kathy Duval for their help with planning the meeting. Herman Krajewski gave a talk and showed slides of different coins, and spoke of different merits of a coin.
 
Nominations opened for officers. Alan Langley--President, Ed Straub--Treasurer, were nominated by John Ferreri and their platform read to those attending.

Questions arose and were discussed as to future meeting place, dues, constitution, etc. Brian Zoldak of Willimantic won the gold piece door prize. Alan Langley won the gold raffle prize. 35 collectors present: one dealer set up.

Called to order by John Ferreri

Mrs. Sally Kirka of Manchester, gave a presentation on elongated coins. She showed slides and had a 3-case display. Nominations closed and officers elected:

President Alan Langley, Vice President John Ference, Secretary Kathy Duval, Treasurer Ed Straub.

Chuck Straub was appointed bourse chairman by the President. John Ferreri was appointed Corresponding Secretary. Constitution was adopted as read. Auction was held followed by raffle.

Adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
